GoldenPalace.com Charity Auctions

About the Car
The car which once belonged to Cardinal Josef Ratzinger, now pope Benedict XVI, was won by online casino GoldenPalace.com for an impressive €188,938.88. A few months before being elected head of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI decided to sell his six-year-old VW Golf. The vehicle had been imported from Germany to Rome in 1999.

Benajin Halbe, 21, bought the Golf without knowing the car's history. It was only when Halbe obtained the car's registration documents confirming Josef Ratzinger as the former owner that he realized the truly blessed nature of his purchase.

The purchasing of the car by GoldenPalace.com drew international attention and worldwide media coverage. The car has not been driven since it was bought in 2005.
