The first thing you should know about how to play baccarat is how a hand is played, from beginning to end. It will be much easier to follow if you play along with the free baccarat game from our software suite. If you haven’t yet, you may download it by clicking on the one of the links available near the top of this page. Once it is installed and running, you can follow along as each hand progresses. It may be less complicated if you chose the Single Player option to start, which will mean no waiting for other players to place their bets.
A hand of baccarat begins when all bets have been placed on the desired betting area of the table. To do this using the software, just use your mouse to click on the desired chip amount, then click on the area of the table in which you wish to place your bet. If you wish to bet in a multiple of the chip amount, just click in the betting area as many times as you wish. For example, if you want to bet $30, click on the $10 chip, then click in the betting area 3 times, giving you 3x$10, or a $30 bet. Note, though, that there is a maximum bet limit of $300 per hand.
If you are just learning how to play baccarat for the first time, you may feel like you want to change your bet. If this is so, all you have to do is click on “Clear Bets”, which will cancel your current bet, giving you the opportunity to start over. If you are satisfied with the amount of your wager, you may then click on the “Deal” button, which starts the dealing process. You, the player, will then receive the first of your initial 2 cards, followed by one for the banker, another for you, and the 2nd card for the banker. All the cards will be dealt face up, so the point values of both hands are visible. To read more about how the dealing of baccarat hand progresses, please go to the Baccarat Rules page. In simple terms, when you are learning how to play baccarat, once the first 4 cards have been dealt, one more card is dealt to the player or the banker, or both, depending on their respective point totals.
When most people first learn how to play baccarat there is the tendency to assume that the winning hand must total 8 or 9 to win. This is not exactly true, but in this way, baccarat is similar to blackjack, because as long as the point total of one hand is higher than the other, it wins. Unlike blackjack however, anyone at the table, including the current player, can bet on either the player’s or the banker’s hand winning, and it is entirely possible that the winning hand only has 1 point, while the losing hand has 0. Another major difference when learning how to play baccarat is that in baccarat you don’t have the option of controlling when you are dealt a 3rd card. This is determined by various rules regarding the current points total of a hand and whether it is the player’s hand or the banker’s. You can read more about this aspect of baccarat on the Baccarat Rules page.
